Mindfulness Meditiation Weekend

Directed by Aoife Valley

This is a silent retreat & is non-religious.

In mindfulness meditation we are becoming aware of breath and body senses with a kind and non-judgmental attitude. By directing attention in this way we become more attuned to what is happening right now in this moment instead of getting caught up in the past or future. When we 'just be' like this, tension, stress and worry naturally fade away to leave behind inner peace. Through this meditation we are giving ourselves a chance to process life experiences in present time, neither running away from or being at the mercy of thoughts and feelings.

Mindfulness allows us to change gears from 'doing' to 'being', which opens up access to all the unique senses, intuition and inner guidance that we are cut off from when lost in thought. When we stop trying to control everything and allow life to simply flow through us a great ease appears. Our lives become more joyful, moment by moment. We relax into the natural rhythms of life - responding clearly rather than reacting blindly to challenges.

This weekend retreat is an opportunity to slow down and relax into silence in a beautiful natural setting while learning mindfulness and loving-kindness meditation techniques. There will be periods of sitting, walking, mindful movement and mindful communication. The longest sitting will be 30 minutes and participants are free to sit in whichever way they need to and lie down at any time. There will be plenty of personal time for rest and walking in the forest and nearby beaches. This retreat will be held in silence with frequent opportunity to ask questions and share.

Commences: 5pm Registration (supper 6pm)
Concludes: After Lunch
Cost: €180

Fri 16th - Sun 18th May

Begin with The Heart

Directed by Fr. Daniel O'Leary

Theme:The Divine Beauty of Your Human Heart

God became human so that we may become divine.Once we begin to really believe that, everything changes. We become more free, more confident, more full of joy. We let go of guilt and fear and distress. And so do those around us.

Fr Daniel O’Leary was a parish priest in the Diocese of Leeds for 30 years. He also taught theology and religious education in St Mary’s University College in London and became Chair of its Religious Studies Department before being appointed Episcopal Vicar for Christian Formation in Leeds until 2000. He holds Masters degrees in theology, spirituality and religious education.  Award-winning author of 12 books, he is a regular contributor to the Tablet and the Irish Furrow. His current project is about the recovery of what is called the ‘sacramental imagination’ in all our spiritual endeavours – in our inner spiritual work as well as our many pastoral and educational ministries. This life-enhancing understanding of the fleshing of God springs from a traditional and orthodox (but mostly forgotten) theology of nature and grace which transforms our understanding of the Incarnation. This understanding, in turn, transforms the quality of our lives and ministry. Our ‘hidden self’ emerges and we begin to experience in the here and now, the promised ‘abundant life’. This theology and spirituality, this new way of being and of seeing, are now the focus of Fr Daniel’s life’s work.  He is, however, still finding it difficult to be the one thing that God wants of each of us – to be a free and authentic human being!'Begin with the Heart Project' and 'On the Way to Life'. Both of these are dedicated to introducing and deepening the rich notion of ‘the sacramental imagination’ among God’s People.  This much-neglected insight into the meaning of the Incarnation profoundly affects our ways of being human and being Christian.
In this retreat we discover anew the role of the sacraments in purifying and celebrating this powerful and enlightening sacramental vision.

Commences: 6pm (supper)
Concludes: After Lunch
Cost:€160

Workshop on Buteyko Breathing

Directed by Martha Roe & Christopher Drake (via video link)

We invite all people, particularly health professionals, to investigate the revolutionary ideas of the Russian medical scientist, Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko, who in the mid 1950's claimed that a diverse range of chronic ailments are caused by an increasingly common ( & reversible) breathing disorder which fundamentally disturbs the organism. After exhaustive research Professor Buteyko concluded that chronic health conditions such as asthma , allergies, disturbed metabolism, nervous disorders and sleep problems are brought about when respiratory patterns deviate from their physiological norms and can be reversed through reconditioning and normalizing the breathing pattern. His drug free approach came to be known as Buteyko's Method .

Professor Buteyko's approach has been validated in the testimony of thousands of people all over the world, dozens of positive newspaper articles and in numerous published medical trials. Since the 1950's hundreds of thousands of people all over the world have been taught Buteyko's drug free approach and successfully reversed even serious chronic health problems.

Buteyko's Method has been known to help ADHD, allergies, angina, anxiety, asthma, cancer, chronic fatigue, circulatory problems, depression, epilepsy, Hay fever, high blood pressure, heart conditions, hormonal disorders, insomnia, immune deficiency, infertility, lack of concentration, lung disorders, menstrual problems, migraine, obesity, panic attacks, psoriasis and many other chronic diseases.

6pm to 8pm for 5 nights
Cost: €450 (Includes 10 hours training, one month's supervision & reunion.)

Also Children's workshop, 3.30 - 5.30pm for 5 days, same dates. Correct your child's breathing and improve concentration and overall wellness. Reduce allergies, asthma & reliance on medication. €395 for children's workshop.

Family Rates & payment options available.

Five Day Silent & Guided Retreat for Men

Guided by the Benedictine Monks of the Abbey of Saint Joseph.

These five-day retreats are a shortened form of the full Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. The Exercises are a synthetic and practical presentation of the central truths of the Catholic faith—God, the meaning of life, the eternal destiny of mankind, the life of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race—in the form of meditations, examination of conscience and prayers, to find peace of heart, rid oneself of worldly attachments and discover the will of God for the salvation of the soul. On the purely practical level, the day consists of 4 or 5 talks given by one or other of the two priests who are guiding the retreat. After each talk there is time for private prayer, and then free time to converse with the priests. There is of course daily Mass and Rosary, as well as opportunity for Confession.

Daily Mass is generally offered according to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. Priest/ retreatants, celebrate Mass privately according to the form of their choice.

Mon 21st July - Fri 8th August

St Columcille Institute of Christendom College, USA

Launching this year of faith, the St Columcille Institute will seek to strengthen and deepen the understanding of young Catholic leaders through sessions of catechesis, insuring that participants develop the ability both to evangelize and defend the faith within secular society. Participants will also examine the patrimony of Western Christian Civilisation through an in-depth study of history & literature.

The institute invites the youth of both the United States and Ireland to experience an awareness of the spiritual depth of the Catholic culture of Ireland that has enriched and determined much of the history of Europe, the United States and the world. With its gaelic roots, Ireland remains the culturally dominant English-speaking Catholic civilization in the world.

Bringing young people together from the United States and Ireland will occasion fruitful dialogue and an exchange of ideas and experiences, reawakening a love of our mutual heritage and energising a determined hope for a revival of Christian Faith and culture.

The course will be led by Dr. Timothy O'Donnell, with Dr Brendan McGuire, Professor Sharon Mahoney Hickson and Fr. Mark Byrne (SOLT), along with guest speakers.
